The Sacramento Valley Environmental Water Caucus began on March 8, 2003 with the meeting of over 40 activists and environmental leaders from throughout the watershed. At this meeting, the participants prioritized the goals and strategies they wished to collectively pursue. At is next plenary meeting on October 11, 2003, participants formally approved the organizational goals and decision-making process, clarified it mission, adopted guiding principles and selected a priority campaign to pursue over the next year.

Funding for the development of the SVEWC has come from the William C. Kenney Foundation , Friends of the River, and donations by individuals and organizations. Donations will be needed to keep the SVEWC growing and can be made out and sent to:
