Draft SVEWC Mission Statement

Note: The following is a draft mission statement for the SVEWC organization for consideration of adoption at the October 11, 2003 meeting

Who:
Organizations and individuals committed to preserving and restoring the region's environment.

Where:
The entire Sacramento watershed.

What:
Protect and restore the habitat, natural processes, and connectivity that are needed for long term sustainable populations of native plants and animals and compatible recreation.

How:
By coordinating, prioritizing, and motivating united action on legislation, legal challenges, education, negotiation, collaboration, on-the-ground restoration and other habitat-benefiting activities.

Why:
To assure that future generations have better habitat, environmental conditions, and compatible recreational resources than the present conditions in the watershed.

DRAFT
The mission of the Sacramento Valley Environmental Water Caucus is to coordinate, prioritize, and motivate united action on legislation, legal challenges, education, negotiation, collaboration, on-the-ground restoration and other activities that protect and restore the habitat, natural processes, and connectivity throughout the Sacramento River watershed that are needed to assure that future generations have better habitat and sustainable populations of plants and animals, environmental conditions, and compatible recreational resources than the present conditions in the watershed.
